The VMCRA 2009 season is winding down and Saturday night’s action at Shenandoah Speedway certainly changed the complexion of the entire championship battle. The evening started with European qualifying as Hunter Koschara paced the field with a time of 19.067 and Travis Roach alongside with a time of 19.148. As the green flag dropped it didn’t take long for the action to heat up as the # 27 car of Justin LaDuke got loose in turn 1 bringing out the 1st of 4 caution periods. Koschara again took off and held a three car advantage for 5 more laps until a spin by Tammi Cook in turn 2 brought out the second caution period.. In lap 10 there seem to be an instant replay as the #33 seemed to bounce rather wildly and spin coming out of turn 2. Once again the drivers took the green flag and then on lap 16 the caution flag flew for the final time as the #2 car got into the back of the leader while coming through turn 4 and sent both cars spinning along with the #17 car of Quinn Houff that had spun to avoid the leaders. Both cars were sent to the rear but due to some confusion between spotters and drivers it took unnecessary time and laps to line the field back up for a green, white, checker finish. The #9 of Scotty Roach was the new leader with Ryan Adams in second and Justin LaDuke in third and that’s the way it would finish 2 laps later. Koschara would end his night in 10th spot , two laps down as he limped home with a flat left rear. Racing action continues this Saturday at Shenandoah Speedway.

Your EBoard met today and unanimously voted to implement the following changes immediately:
If you have any questions, feel free to contact any of your EBoard members.
We also would ask that everyone take the time to re-read your rule book with special emphasis on the Mission Statement of this Association and page 1.
Some other general information:
Banquet - November 1st, Roanoke Moose Lodge. Tickets will be $20 and can be purchased through the last race of the season. There will be no “trophies or awards” for any driver that has not reserved their seat by October 4th. You will still be able to purchase tickets for additional people that would want to attend after 10/4 however, the price will be $25. It’s unfortunate to have to do this, but every year we end up having to pay for people that say they are going to come but do not show or we have spent $$ on trophies and awards that no one comes to accept, so our hope is that by setting a deadline and increasing the price after that date, everyone will have taken care of this before the deadline.
Hope to see you at the track – Saturday, Franklin County Speedway.

Spring is just around the corner and the 2008 season is knocking at our doors. We’re just a few weeks away from our first event at Orange County and I hope you are all rested and ready to go. I know several of you were planning on going to the Orange County practice that was rained out. I’ve talked to the track and you are welcome to go there on 3/22 for the practice but also keep in mind that is the same date as the Motor Mile practice so you have a couple different options to work with and I hope you will use that opportunity to get your cars ready. And if there’s anything I can do to help any of you out, just let me know. I am planning to be at Motor Mile on the 22nd.
It looks like one of the big battles this year might be for the Rookie of the Year. We had a couple new faces at the end of the season last year (Amanda and Tyler) along with several new faces you will be seeing soon so please remember to welcome them to our group and make sure you help them out if you can. Let me be the first to welcome Andy DeFilippis who will be in the #97 car, Landon Sims will be in the #12, Shane Estes will be back in the #00, Tommy Livengood and Darrel Williams along with a few more whose numbers we aren’t sure of yet. And there is a possibility of even more that we’ve been in contact with that have purchased cars but have not yet joined.
As for the rest of the field, Matt is excited about defending his championship, Our Rookie of the Year, Amanda, plans on giving all of you a run for your money (and I think she proved that late in the season last year), and we have several “old timers” returning to duke it out again. Rumor has it we may even see Brandon Ward (former champ) back a couple of times this year. We have some new sponsors this year. AIM Sports has signed on as an Associate sponsor (be sure and check out their link from our website) along with Steve Forney and Affordable Marine Service. You’ll be getting new Windshield Decals showing Aztec Rental as our Series Sponsor so extra thanks goes out to Jason Moye for all of his help. Moody Brothers, Terry Walters, Kevin’s Signs, Mini Cup Supply, and Racer T’s will be back as well so Be sure to THANK and SUPPORT all of our sponsors – without them we couldn’t do what we do the way we do it. We’re still working on a couple more and will keep you posted. Kevin is in the process of getting all of the decals done so we will get them to you as quickly as possible.
Please be sure to send your Driver Information to the “webmaster” so he can get it uploaded to the website. At the bottom of the Team / Driver pages there is a note that says - - - If your team will be racing in the 2008 season
email me to get started on your team page.
And if your team will be racing in 2008 and you haven’t submitted your application, please get that done as soon as possible so we can get our Rosters updated and sent out to the tracks. So for now, that about wraps it up. Remember the next practice is at Motor Mile on 3/22 and the first race is April 5th at Orange County. I look forward to seeing you all soon.

Happy New Year ! I hope your Holidays and Off Time have provided for that much needed R & R and you’re now ready to get back to the Track. The 2008 season is fast approaching. For those of you still waiting on $$ from the last 2 races. We did go to court on January 3rd and the judge did issue judgment in our favor, so hopefully we will be seeing that money very soon. We will continue to keep you posted. Your EBoard met on 1/12 and went completely through the rulebook to see what changes were needed for the upcoming year. The good news is – no major changes were made that will have you heading to the garage. When you get your new rule book, you will only see a few clarifications, and a couple changes in Tech and Protests. We’ve come a long way to get to this point. Here are some highlights of what you’ll see:
* Most Importantly for safety – but not a rule – we are “Highly Recommending” that you add head rests to your seat. We strongly believe that is what protected Matt Bowling from head and neck injuries in his crash last year and those that are already using them really like having them. At aprox. $80 for both side rests and covers, we feel this is a very inexpensive safety measure that you should want to use for your own well being.
* More Pre-Race Tech – Impounding Cars after qualifying (don’t panic, you’ll still be able to make changes necessary before racing). And yes – you can be disqualified before you even take your car on the track if you come to the track illegal.
* We are going back to allowing 2 races for both non members and previous members before having to join.
* Cost to protest engines is being lowered to $50 which will go to the Association and then the protestor is responsible for all Tech and Seal costs incurred unless the engine is found to be illegal.
* The Appeal process is being removed. Any questions regarding a DQ will go to Freddie and he will have the final say.
We’ve also made the decision this year to NOT have a general membership meeting since we have members that have to travel from so many long distance locations. What we are going to ask of each of you is that you complete and mail your membership form and fees back in and we will send you your rule books. The fee will stay the same this year at $160 and will still include your fuel at the track. The official start of the season is with practice at Orange County on March the 8th so we would like to have your sign ups completed before then. With new members in our group and Cup drivers changing teams this year, there’s been a lot of discussion about car number changes, so we really need to get the applications handled as soon as possible. Most of you will be receiving by mail a application and a pre-addressed return envelope. If you know of possible new members for this year, please let us know so we can contact them. Thanks, and Hope to hear from you all soon. Willie

Welcome to the new VMCRA website
Hello and Happy Holidays!
Just wanted to give you a few quick updates. Thanks to everyone who came out for the banquet making it a success once again. It’s hard to believe 2007 is coming to a close and we will soon begin Season 12 for the VMCRA, Inc. We hope everyone is enjoying their break but also getting geared up for another exciting season. The 2008 schedule is complete (although always subject to change) and if not already, will be posted on the website soon. We listened to your feedback and made every effort to make it easier on everyone. 14 events with only a couple events back to back during the entire season and No Friday events at all. We also left the dates of 5/3 and 9/6 open for all of you who go to the Richmond Cup races. We did add 1 race at Langley Speedway on June 28th and will be working to get some Lodging information and maybe group rates for anyone that would like to make a mini vacation out of it. For reasons that most everyone should be aware of, we are not returning to Friendship Motor Speedway this year, and just to keep you informed we have taken legal action and should have more info, hopefully including checks, by the second week of January. Also, your new EBoard will be starting work in January – going through the rule book and making any updates / changes that are needed, so make sure to contact us if you think there is something that you think needs to be looked at. Another reminder for some of you that may have forgotten – you can still order VMCRA and/or Individual team shirts and other items using the links from our website. Might be a good idea for Christmas??? Also, keep an eye out for new items to be added for 2008.
So, once again, Merry Christmas to all of you and your families and we look forward to seeing you soon.
Willie
