The VMCRA returned to Franklin County for the last time in 2008 andas the saying goes – we had some typical Franklin County Speedway Action on Saturday night but at the checkered, it was Kevin Berkstresser who drove home with the trophy. Congratulations Kevin – you’ve worked long and hard for this one and it was great to see you in Victory Lane.
13 cars would show up with 2 rounds of practice, the second round also being the qualifying session putting Jerry Perdue on the pole once again. We had 2 cautions, the first on lap 10 when Wayne Corprew blew a tire in turn 4 having to bring the #20 in and park it along with Justin LaDuke who would break a chain and also had to come in ending his night Jerry would lead the race until the 23rd lap when some unfortunate actions on his part would bring out our 2nd caution and also would send him to the back of the field and then be disqualified from the event. As Jason Moye was going for the lead, Jerry helped him find the wall instead taking a hard hit going into turn 3 and ending his night. On the restart, Jerry was black flagged and placed at the back of the field for the restart which opened the door for Kevin to take the win. 2nd would go to Jason Adkins in the 17 and 3rd would go to a very excited Tyler Roach, getting his best finish ever in his mini cup car. Another good finish was our 4]th] place car, #97 of Andy DeFillipis who is currently leading a tight Rookie Race with Tyler, only 1 point separating them right now. 5th goes to Matt Wade, 6th to Darrel Williams (quite a contrast from his last visit to FCS), 7th to Amanda Forney who had to be smiling all the way home just for the fact that this was the last trip to FCS this year, 8th went to Dennis Yarnold subbing for Fred Jackson in the #48. 9th – 12th were all unable to finish the race for various reasons. The 9th spot would go to Jason Moye due to the unfortunate events on lap 23. 10th place goes to Travis Roach and 11th place points
would go to both the #20 and #27, both having problems and coming in on the same lap.
So, that’s Franklin County in a nutshell.
I feel like everyone that was at the track is aware of everything that happened after the race and the reasons behind the actions that were taken.
